Assisting Hands Home Care understands the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces, and we give back to our veterans by providing VA home care services in Alsip, IL.  Our caregivers will provide the personal care needed to help senior veterans live safely at home while treating them with the compassion and respect they deserve.

There are around 8 million senior veterans in the U.S., many of whom may be eligible to receive benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  As more seniors choose the option of aging in place after retirement, more senior veterans are preferring this option as well.  Senior veterans and the spouses of veterans who qualify for VA benefits can use these benefits towards the cost of our VA home care.

At Assisting Hands Home Care, we provide VA home care and respite care services in Alsip, IL to help senior veterans who receive VA benefits.  We will evaluate the care needs of your loved ones to form a personalized care plan and ensure that their needs are met.  Eligible veterans can expect quality care from our licensed caregivers.

VA Pension with Aid and Attendance Benefits

Veterans and spouses of veterans may be eligible for a VA pension with Aid and Attendance benefits that can be put towards the cost of home care.  In order to receive these benefits, veterans and spouses must apply with the VA to see if they are eligible.  Those who qualify for these benefits can receive up to $2200 per month to help pay for part-time home care.

Senior veterans and the spouses of veterans must meet the following criteria to be eligible for VA pension with Aid and Attendance benefits:

  • Applicants must be 65 or older
  • Veterans must have served at least 90 days of active duty, including one day during wartime
  • Must have an honorable discharge
  • Surviving spouses must be the spouse of a wartime veteran
  • Applicants must need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Applicants must have less than $123,600 in total assets, not including homes, vehicles, and personal property
  • Married couples must have a monthly income of less than $3000, single veterans must have a monthly income of less than $2600, and surviving spouses must have a monthly income of less than $2000

Seniors who are approved for VA benefits must continue to meet the criteria to remain eligible and may be required to submit documentation that proves their continued eligibility.  The VA can conduct an audit at any time to ensure those receiving benefits are still eligible.
